No Leg To Stand On

Well.

It's been awhile since I've posted. And for good reason, let me tell you.

While driving home from work on October 11, 2012, I was in a serious car accident. A young guy who had just bought a car failed to yield on one of the busiest streets in Lexington, plowed into me, sending me into yet another car.

I've been in a few car accidents in my life, each and every one no fault of mine, but this one was the worst by far. I immediately knew something was wrong with my right foot, and when I looked down after the smoke cleared, my foot was twisted and almost beside my ankle.

Needless to say, I was alarmed.

An ambulance took me to the nearest hospital and the docs confirmed that my ankle was shattered. What has followed since has been two surgeries, metal plates in my foot, splints, and casts. And right before Thanksgiving, my Grandfather passed away. Because of my foot, I was unable to make the trip to attend the funeral. I'm just now to the point where I will be starting physical therapy, and the surgeon says that I might get to try and walk again near the end of January.

It's been a challenge for me not being able to walk and do things myself. My life has been turned upside down and inside out. I haven't been able to work my day job, which is what pays my bills. The pain has been a challenge to deal with, and the pain meds typically left me sleepy and/or loopy. So writing hasn't really been an option either. I'm just now getting to the point where I can focus enough to possibly write and do crafts.

So that's what's been going on in my life. I'm hoping now I am on my way to reclaim what I once had, and possibly even make it better. Because as bad as it was and is, I know that it could have been worse.
